Unique characteristics: A glycolic acid peel is an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) chemical exfoliation treatment. It is known to improve the health and appearance of skin by improving its tone, texture, and overall complexion.

Glycolic acid has a small molecular structure, giving it the ability to travel deep into the layers of the skin. Once there, the acid dissolves excess sebum and dead skin cells, revealing smoother, brighter, and younger-looking skin.

Skin conditions indication:

Co ntact time: A Glycolic Peel will result in moderate to heavy peeling, and most people do not experience significant downtime. The drier the skin the more intense the peel. Glycolic peels can be applied for up to 20 minutes. The client’s skin may feel tingling / stinging and feel warm -hot. Visible redness is the normal and attention must be paid to good neutralisation. If the client still feels tingling it is still working and is not yet neutralised neutralise till no sensation of tingling/ stinging can be felt.

Clinical end points: Glycolic peels remove layers of skin cells from the epidermis and are often highly reactive in certain areas depending on the pressure applied in application, pooling and thickness of the skin so variable results on areas may occur this is normal in glycolic peeling and must be monitored by the therapist and why a good knowledge of the skin and skin conditions is imperative. Because peels accelerate you cell turnover, it is normal to have a purging phase when you first start treating the skin. During this beginning stage you can notice things such as breakouts and areas of pigmentation getting darker as well as a common glycolic rash or irritation.

What to expect after peel: Recovering from a Glycolic peel can take as little as 48 hours for mild treatments or up to seven days for stronger treatments. After a mild Glycolic peel, your skin will look brighter right away with little skin lifting and peeling. Your skin may have a pink flush at first, but this will soon disappear.
